At the beginning of my academic journey I was mostly focused on the figurative portrait. My subjects were inserted in anonymous and neutral settings.
The growth of my interest towards more distinguishing and peculiar features led me to get closer to the Circus, its figures and the role of the mask.
The mask is something that strengthens the character but helps to hide its hallmarks at the same time.
The "Leather" series that has leather masks as its main subject, brought me to an introspective journey which ended with the "Self-portrait" series.
A common feature between each subject is the eyes' emptiness, even if painted they appear void or closed. This makes it harder for the viewer to fully understand the subject's personality.
Not everything I paint is definite, the hidden identity becomes ambiguous.
I find it more interesting to work with subtraction, the less you see the more you know.
